Youspotproperty.com website - rewards for spotting empty property
July 26, 2014
An interesting private sector approach that is a kind of alternative to the "match-maker" services run by some local authorities. In this case the "suitor" is the company itself who offer financial rewards to anyone spotting and reporting an eligible empty property, including a (possible?) £20 voucher for the spotting of eligible properties and 1% of the purchase price if youspotproperty.com go on to buy the property (presumably for resale?) along with a £500 donation to a local charity of choice.
The Terms and Conditions are not watertight - for example the word eligibilty is often used. But eligiblity for something is different from actually getting something. On the main website, there is a clear commitment to give the £20 voucher. In the T&C the wording is less certain:
If the property meets our eligibility criteria, and you complete our ‘report an empty get my £20’ process, your name will be added to those qualifying participants who could receive a £20 gift voucher issued by Marks & Spencer plc (or another third party of our choice).
We will notify you by email to the email address provided by you if you have been selected to receive one of our gift vouchers within 30 days of the end of the calendar month in which you participated in the ‘report an empty get my £20’ scheme.
The company owners claim to be motivated simply by the desire to bring empty homes back into use although it is clearly a commercial enterprise.
