Our programme of rewarding the best posts on the website have fallen somewhat behind - but nor have they been forgotten.
Just to remind people that the awards are approved by the Empty Homes Network Membership Services sub-commttee (though they are not responsible for the delay, which is attributable to "administrative bottlenecks" as we like to refer to them, euphemistically, hereabouts). Anyway, and finally, here are the February Awards:
Firstly, we'd like to recognise Nick Pritchard-Gordon's
post about his "woolly approach" to dealing with empty homes owners with various vulnerabilities such as mental health, emotional or behavioural issues. We think this showed the best side of Empty Homes Practitioners who whilst working hard to achieve their goals try never to lose sight of the human dimension and retain their compassion.
Reading Borough Council is lucky indeed to have someone of Nick's calibre working for them and we recommend immedaite promotion and a pay-rise but in the meantime Nick (pictured left) will have to make do with a £15 Amazon voucher.
Also in February we would like to recognise two posts by Andrew Lavender. Andrew has waived his right to receive the cash award but gets an "honourable mention". His two posts were related to the technicalities associated with
CPOs and also to
enforced sales and illustrate the depth of knowledge and skill for which he is a by-word and to which I am sure all EHN members aspire.
Another well-experienced Empty Homes Practitioner also made an important contribution during February - Andrew Vickers, ex-Nottingham City Council and now self-employed (pictured below). He made a comment on the same issue as Andrew Lavender, relating to
Enforced Sales, where he flags up some of the routes to tackling apparently intractable probate issues.
