Empty Property Compliance Officer | Guildford Borough Council & Waverley Borough Council

Salary:  £33,960 to £39,355 (pay award pending)

We would like to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Officer to join the Private Sector Housing Teams within the Environment and Regulatory Service in both Guildford Borough Council & Waverley Borough Council to bring empty properties back into use. The service regulates a diverse range of disciplines including: environmental control, public health, food safety, health & safety, licensing, planning, private sector housing and environmental crime. Your role will be to deliver regulatory services in relation to Private Sector Housing and empty properties.

On a typical day, you would:

  • Work to proactively and reactively bringing empty properties back into use;

  • Investigate reports relating to private sector housing;

To succeed in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with people;

  • Excellent ability to reason, process information, be curious, ask questions and analyse potential outcomes to make timely and effective decisions;

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a high performing team;

  • Excellent organisational skills;

  • Good knowledge and practical experience of applying Environmental Health law;

  • Tenacity and a problem-solving mindset;

  • The ability to adapt to change and use initiative; and

  • The ability to devise, learn and adapt to new systems and processes.

Qualifications

Essential  

  • Good standard of general education (e.g. GCSE level or equivalent experience)

Desirable 

  • Working towards professional qualification or in possession of qualification
