it'st aken a long time to filter out, but we are finally announcing the winners of our "Post-of-the-month" award for January 2012. Our two deserving winners will each be receiving a £15 Amazon voucher for their contributions. The awards, the first of their kind in the history of the Network, were approved by the Member Services Sub-committee, chaired by Lynne Campbell of South Lakeland, and were as follows: Thelma Cunningham of Plymouth wins £15 for this post about a building full of guano and dead pigeons. Empty homes work sometimes throws up situations that verge on the bizarre. And with our post-of-the-month awards, sometimes questions are as welcome as answers. Thelma’s post about a building full of dead pigeons and guano reminds us of the range of work we often have to deal with. Being an empty practitioner is as far away from the stereotype of the faceless Council bureaucrat as anyone could wish. Hardly routine. Good luck with the guano Thelma. We hope your award will make a welcome contribution towards the cost of acquiring a stout pair of gloves and a plastic bucket. Nick Long of Lewisham wins £15 for this post about the practicality of pursuing EDMOs Despite the large, Eric Pickles-shaped cloud hanging over EDMOs, we think they will continue to be of great value for local authorities dealing with troublesome empties that don’t warrant the ultimate sanction of compulsory purchase. Nick’s post reminds us that the EDMOs are not necessarily as fearsomely difficult as they may appear to the uninitiated. Although there were other posts that echoed Nick’s contribution, we think Nick’s deserves to be singled out, carrying with it does it the weight of extensive experience gained in Lewisham.
