Job Opportunity | Plymouth City Council

Housing Delivery Officer – Empty Homes

Ballard House Permanent 37 hours per week Grade E-F

About the role

The increased and accelerated delivery of new homes to meet housing needs in the city is a top priority for the Council.

Our award winning Plan for Homes programmes have been taking an innovative approach to planning and building new housing in Plymouth for more than 10 years and in particular have focussed on bringing forward more affordable homes for rent and sale.

The Plan for Homes also recognises the importance of bringing empty homes back into use and we are now looking for a Housing Delivery Officer to help deliver our empty homes initiatives. This is a challenging and rewarding role that is crucial to making the best use of existing housing stock in the city.

The aim of this role is to reduce the number of long term empty properties in Plymouth and to progress new and existing cases to a positive conclusion. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential as the post holder will work with internal and external stakeholders in line with the Council’s core behaviours and values.

The role will include contacting, liaising and negotiating with empty home owners across the city, monitoring progress of cases and dealing with any complaints received. It will also involve delivering the empty homes service which will include voluntary options to support an empty home owner such as making financial assistance available as well as taking enforcement action when an owner refuses to work with the Council to bring their property back into use. Therefore being organised, confident and self-motivated are essential qualities.

A background in housing or property management would be beneficial, however if you are strongly motivated and feel that you have the skills that we are looking for then we would like to hear from you.
