About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, innovative, and self-motivated individual to join the Environmental Health Service as an Empty Homes Officer.

We are looking for a confident and independent person with an understanding of the issues that empty homes present, and who can use their skills and experience to take the lead on bringing long term empty homes back into use.

You will investigate complaints and referrals about empty homes and compile and maintain a database. You will encourage owners to bring homes back into use by providing advice and assistance. You will also be responsible for initiating and leading on enforcement interventions including the serving of notices, remedial action and the preparation of cases for court action. You will be given independence to investigates cases and decide on outcomes, alongside support from colleagues and opportunities for training and development.

For this post you will need to have a flexible attitude, be a confident communicator and negotiator and be willing to work both as part of a team and independently. Knowledge of the legislation associated with empty homes and enforcement practices would be advantageous but is not essential.
