Empty Homes Week 2026: 9th - 15th March

Latest news
February 12, 2026

The Empty Homes Network is pleased to share that National Empty Homes Week 2026 will take place from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th March 2026, continuing this important annual spotlight on the vital work councils, housing professionals, and local partners are doing to bring long-term empty homes back into use.

Organised by Action on Empty Homes, National Empty Homes Week provides a platform for local authorities, community groups and housing organisations across the UK to:

  • Showcase best practice in tackling empty homes and re-using properties for people who need them most

  • Raise awareness of the social, economic and environmental opportunities of returning empty homes to productive use

  • Promote local campaigns, services and support for owners of empty properties, and highlight pathways for action at community and neighbourhood level

Each year the campaign highlights the scale of the empty homes challenge, with over a million homes in England alone left unoccupied, and showcases successful local interventions that are turning that wasted potential into affordable, energy-efficient housing.

Homes Into Hope: Impact in our communities

For 2026, the theme centres on “Homes into Hope: Impact in our communities”, emphasising how bringing empty homes back into use not only contributes to housing supply but also supports climate goals by reducing the need for new build and cutting associated carbon emissions. The week is an opportunity to elevate stories of retrofit,  renovation and sustainable reuse that benefit residents, neighbourhoods and local economies alike.

Get Involved

We encourage councils and sector partners to:

  • Plan and share local events, case studies and success stories during the Week

  • Use the Week as a lever to engage local media and stakeholders

  • Highlight services, grants and advice available to empty home owners

  • Tag activity on social media to help amplify the message nationally

Full information on National Empty Homes Week 2026, including campaign materials and support, is available on the Action on Empty Homes website here.

If your authority or organisation has activities planned for National Empty Homes Week 2026, we’d love to hear about them, please get in touch so we can help share your work with the broader empty homes community.
